New Delhi is rather flat due to it’s situation on the Gangetic Plains, with the River Yamuna flowing through the eastern side of the city and the Arravalli Hills across the west. Old Delhi lies on the congested and crowded west bank of the Yamuna, whilst the tree-lined avenues of New Delhi, built by the British to rule their empire, are found to the southwest. The remainder of the city is a general low-rise sprawl with the southwest being somewhat wealthier.

Winter (mid-December to late January) is cold and has thick fog. February to March brings Spring, with cool evenings and warm days. The hot season is April to June, often uncomfortably hot (temperatures above 45 degrees C). The rainy and humid monsoon season runs from July to late September, with Autumn/Fall bringing warm days and cool evenings.
